Embossed Text in SundayPlus

(Cropped Screen Shot)

“What?! Embossed Text?” That’s right, and here’s how to do it:

1. This works best if you use a monochromatic color scheme. For this example, I’m going to use blue.
2. Make a new text file in the SundayPlus editor. For now, type one line of text and set it to a somewhat large font size.
3. Select your text and set the font color to light blue.
4. Slide the font transparency slider to about 50%.
5. Give your text file a drop shadow, and pick a much darker shade of the blue you used for your font color.
6. Set the shadow position to be at the lower right with an offset of 4 for H and V.
7. Save your text files in the ptf format and close the editor.
8. Drag your text file to any empty cue in the CueList.
9. Load an image file that has medium blue colors in it. Make sure the blues in your image file compliment the blues you used in your text file. For example, if you used denim colored blues, make sure your image is in the same range. A subtly mottled pattern works good for this.
10. Drop it on the blue text file you have in the CueList.
11. Send your blue image and text cue to the live screen.
12. Your text should now look embossed!

You can download the sample files that were created to show this embossed effect. If you don’t already have the included font on your machine (Windows), just copy it to your C:\WINDOWS\FONTS folder before opening SundayPlus.

This tutorial assumes that you are familiar with the functions of SundayPlus and it’s editor. If any of the above steps are unfamiliar to you, please see your Operator’s Field Guide for further information on using these features.
