Getting Started with SundayPlus

This tutorial is geared toward the new user who needs to get going quickly and is the place where all users should start. It is very basic and does not cover all the features of SundayPlus. For complete information on specific features, please see the Field Guide and Help file.

Lesson 1: Getting Started

What you’ll learn: The basic knowledge needed to find things within SundayPlus

SundayPlus builds list of usable elements for each presentation. These are called “CueLists”. You may use one CueList at a time, though most people keep copies of multiple CueLists on hand for many reasons. SundayPlus CueList options include what we call “nested CueLists”. That is you can insert, as a Cue, a shortcut to a list you have previously saved. The designating extension for CueList files is “.cst”. SundayPlus utilizes a large portion of your computer’s RAM to handle all your potential media Cues. The objects that appear on the SundayPlus interface are like web links to the actual media. In that way, any changes you make to the sequence in which you prepare never affects the original. It’s for that reason, we consider these links “non-destructive”.

SundayPlus can pull media files from anywhere in your computer’s reach. But remember, any files that are used in a CueList must be found in the place a SundayPlus CueList last accessed them. If SundayPlus comes up empty-handed while loading a list, you will see emergency tape appear across the thumbnail. At that point you may choose to search for the missing media by right-clicking and selecting “find”. For your convenience, SundayPlus installs media subfolders (and some media files) in your install location. These match the SundayPlus’ file structure, but are optional rather than mandatory. You may create sub-folders in any location, in the usual OS-specific way.

Movie files can be rather large. You may want to point to a larger media drive or network drive for delivery. Beware; access time and playback capabilities can be sluggish due to the large quantity of data you are moving over your network. Test it thoroughly before depending on it in a service.

While much of SundayPlus’ database functionality can be accessed from various menus inside of SundayPlus, you should still keep track of when you delete, rename, or move files. As with any program, SundayPlus will work best if both you and the data files remain in close contact.

Starting SundayPlus: Dual Screens
SundayPlus can act as a single or dual screen system. In a single screen system, the output, or congregation’s screen (Screen 2) is seen on the same screen as the Operator Interface. This is useful for teaching Sunday School or Bible Studies where a smaller group is viewing a monitor. Screen 2 may be sized to fill the screen, covering the Operator Interface and the CueList may be advanced by pressing the spacebar or cursor arrow keys.

In a dual screen system, Screen two is placed on a second monitor or video projector. This allows use of the Operator Interface to make changes to the program unseen by the congregation. Screen two is generally sized to fill the second monitor or projector screen.

OS Setup: Setting Up the Congregation’s Screen
This tutorial assumes that the Operating System of the computer has already been set up for dual screens. If not, please see the Field guide for instructions.

SundayPlus Setup
To set up the congregation screen, select “Prefs” from the Tools menu. Select “Auto Find”. SundayPlus will determine if you have a second video card or not and place and size the picture appropriately. You may also manually select a size for display and/or drag the Screen 2 window anywhere to place it. If the Screen 2 window covers the Operator Interface, simply drag it out of the way. Note: the cursor is blanked by SundayPlus when over Screen 2, but you can still use the mouse to drag it. The only exception to this rule is if you have a movie clip showing on Screen 2.

Tip: Shortcut Keys
In version 2.1 or greater: Hitting the Ctrl and 0 (zero) keys will shrink the live screen to the lower-right corner of your primary display, Ctrl + 1 keys will auto-size to screen 1 (covering operator interface), and Ctrl + 2 will auto-size to Screen 2.
